The either/or box
“I can’t do what I love because….I’ll be poor.” ”If I want $, I have to give up on what I love.” Those are dangerous either/ors which keep you stuck. How about holding those ideas differently– in a way that keeps you moving forward, exploring, having fun? “When I dare to do more of what I love, I’ll choose opportunities where I can build my skills, my reputation, and explore the new ideas that surround me.” Yes, right now, quitting your job without having “developed” anything else, probably would be a disastrous move. But allow yourself time and have the courage of your convictions and the confidence in your gifts.
Back in 1980, I started conducting seminars based on the precursor ideas in this book. I loved those “Are You Willing to be Successful?” programs. While they didn’t support me financially, Read the rest of this entry »
WNDWYL and color it “green”
Today I met Forrest Bradford. He’s another one! Quirky, committed, infectiously joyful and absolutely passionate ––that the earth we pass on to our children will be worth living in. He’s founded an organization –perhaps even just a month ago–called America’s Refrigerator List. The list we need to post on our refrigerator of the small to-do things that, if we all did them regularly, we’d have our democracy back, we’d be free of dependence on foreign energy, we’d be more connected and having more fun. He’s starting by energizing Read the rest of this entry »
S & D-again
I have to say, being new at this game, and early in my journey as an author, blogger, website manager (what do I do with the spam?) social networker, that SURPRISE and DELIGHT surface at each milestone. So I’ll let it continue to erupt in these notes, but as an abbreviation. From now on it will be labeled as S & D. A few days ago the DELIGHT was being honored by my ‘do what you love’ friend Angela for my very first YouTube experiment in her video challenge . Being the elder of the bunch, I think I got A for effort!
Today’s S & D was the fact that two people I don’t know stumbled onto my website/blog and were glad they did and said they’d be back. That brings me to the next challenge, how to invite people to sign my email list when they are here so that they can receive any particular piece of wisdom I choose to generate for our growing like-minded tribe. Until I get that figured out, know that whenever there is a comment ( and it’s really good to know you are out there), it is noted at the end of the blog. Just click on it, and you’ll see what was offered. Hope I can continue to write reflections worthy of your responses. And/or that you’ll get the book, and start generating your reactions for all to see. In gratitude… Read the rest of this entry »
The Ugly Underside
I have to admit that Why Not? is generally joyous and positive. But if you stop to ask why so many people are pursuing the goal of the book’s title, you might note how often the answers are framed as what they are trying to escape. They talk about the fact that their workplaces are no longer places which welcome their creativity or their ideas. To be perfectly blunt, more than a few work places are considered stifling, dehumanizing and exhausting. I don’t talk about the ugly side in this book, and I don’t reference the fact that our public policies Read the rest of this entry »
