Fitting In vs. Standing Out
Are you trying to fit in? Or, are you ready to stand out? This was a distinction made by Matthew Goldfarb, speaker and organizer of one of the many free webinars I am discovering which help people start their own business doing what they love. Doing what YOU love on a full time basis may mean going against the mainstream Read the rest of this entry »
To the younger readers…
My tentative wandering into your internet world is interesting, educational, and provides links I enjoy. My friend Dick Davies writes about technology and work. He posted an unlikely link on humor competence. Exploring that Microsoft site, I found a piece on the need for young people to think about creating their “personal brand”. While this advice applies to anyone of any age, I am so glad to hear of one corporation’s efforts to provide Read the rest of this entry »
The pause that refreshes…
I took a “do what you love” pause over the last few days by traveling down to Cape Cod to sit on the shore and soak up the seagulls, the sun, the pre-season serenity at Paines Creek, in what feels like the sanctuary I visit far too infrequently. My brother Peter was doing what he cared about deeply–saving land in the town of Brewster. My brother Bruce brought his guitar and regaled us what he loves to do best–sing and entertain. Both/And
I picked up a greeting card in the market, or rather the card simply jumped out at me. “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about CREATING YOURSELF.” It’s a clarifying sentiment….AND….. once again it’s not about either/or. Embrace the implied paradox. It is necessary to do both. EXPLORE who you are, what you want, and what you love– particularly those who have surpressed that essential knowledge for a variety of very acceptable reasons. It’s also necessary to create the kind of life that will truly EXPRESS who you are, what you want, and what you love. Have fun with the BOTH/AND of it!
